Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Epi 01 Recap.
Episode 1 Recap.Very Enjoyable Story: |
The MC Tanjiro, is a beautiful and precious boy who lives with his mother and five sisters. He’s a hardworking big brother who helps people around the village and sells charcoal to help his family.
One
night, Tanjiro is running late from aiding the villagers with his excellent
sense of smell and selling charcoal. He decided to spend the night at Grandpa
Saburo's house. Upon returning home the following morning, Tanjiro discovers
that all of his family members have perished, except for his youngest sister
Nezuko.
Tanjiro and Nezuko |
It was so heartbreaking to see Tanjiro’s happy and loving family destroyed in one night! Always I'm not too fond of it when the place involves a twist like this.
The moment when Tanjiro realizes his family is so scary and the visuals and music portray it so well. The desperation with which Tanjiro carries Nezuko to help him broke my heart.
But then Tanjiro slips and dives off the cliff, and so does the story. Demon Slayer's Giyu Tomioka's performance, lecture, and monologue broke the flow for me. The rhythms of the dialogues and monologues felt out of sync and strange, especially when Tanjiro begs Giyu not to kill Nezuko and Giyu yells and preaches how weak Tanjiro is but monologues how he could have gotten there. faster and how Tanjiro should use his rage to achieve his goals. Like, just pick one! Either preach or encourage!
I think the flow between Giyu's inner thoughts and dialogue could have been smoother. I also think Giyu's character was written to be stoic and serious, so the yelling seemed out of character and left me...conflicted.
Giyu gives Tanjiro advice on where he should go next, and the episode ends with Tanjiro and Nezuko burying their families and running away into the snowy forest. Not sure if they'll take Giyu's advice or just do their own thing, we'll probably find out in the next episode.
I loved the opening and ending visuals, but Giyu's appearance didn't really resonate with me, if anything it was annoying and left me with mixed feelings about the episode.
