Gege Akutami is the author and illustrator of Jujutsu Kaisen, a manga series set in a dystopian Japan. Since March 2018, the shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump published by Shueisha has serialized it. As of October 2022, the chapters have been compiled into 19 tankōbon volumes. In order to break curses and defend mankind, Yoji Itadori, a regular high school student, must join a covert group of Jujutsu Sorcerers when he is chosen to be a conduit for the powerful spirit Sukuna.

- Nobara Kugisaki, a fellow student, accompanies Yuji and Megumi on their investigation into a string of attacks by cursed spirits in Shibuya.
- They come into Mahito, a curse user who is experimenting with conjuring up ghosts under a curse.
- After Yuji and Megumi defeat Mahito, Nobara sustains serious injuries.
- To keep Nobara alive, Yuji must eat Sukuna's finger.

- At the Kyoto Goodwill Event, which pits the three top Jujutsu High schools against one another, Yuji and his friends compete.
- Aoi Todo, a formidable Jujutsu Sorcerer from Kyoto Jujutsu High, opposes Yuji throughout the contest.
- Although Yuji loses to Todo, he gains important insight into the value of cooperation.
